Amy Lavere - Died of Love
Coming up, Amy will be starring in Craig Brewer’s $5 Cover on MTV, a
series of webisodes that MTV will begin airing in blocks at midnight on
Friday nights in May. Died of Love was recorded with Amy’s
touring band, drummer Paul Taylor and guitarist Steve Selvidge). From
the other-worldly cover of Tom Waits’ "Green Grass" to the thundering
rock of "Washing Machine (Reloaded)" and driving "If Love Was A
Train," the album reveals an artist in LaVere who is relentlessly daring
and infinitely intriguing. Died of Love also features the live favorite
“Lazarus” with lead vocals by Steve Selvidge.
Tony Levin - Stick Man
2007 release from King Crimson bassist and studio maverick Tony
Levin. Stick Man, his fifth solo outing, is a breakthrough in
numerous ways. It features the Chapman Stick (in addition to his
basses) in ways it hasn't been heard before. With 17 tracks, 58 minutes
of music, it's a prodigeous release - three tracks have Tony's vocals,
the rest are unique sounding Progressive instrumentals. Most of the
drumming on the CD is by King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, and
Crimson fans will hear some tracks here that are reminiscent of the
group. Stick Man is a step in a new direction for me. Or
perhaps in an old direction, because, from what listeners are telling
me, it's come out quite Crimson-like. That could be because of the
great participation by Pat Mastelotto on drums and percussion - also I
was aiming at more raw, playing-oriented tracks. Backing off from the
composition based writing I'd done recently, I've tried to feature not
only both sides of the Stick, but some unusual bass techniques and
sounds. There are a lot of tracks, (17) and it's mostly instrumental
(especially if you consider my shouting not to be a song!)
Live From Ebbet's Field Vol. 3 - V/A
The Seventies was a special decade for music, and Ebbet's Field, located
on the first level of Brooks Tower near 15th and Curtis streets, was
Denver’s premiere music venue of the time. Founded by concert promoter
Chuck Morris, the tiny club’s four-year run saw an amazing array of star
power – Tom Waits, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and nearly every other
significant act on the upswing.
Los Campesinos - The International Tweexcore Underground (CD Single / 7 Inc
Tracklisting:
1. The International Tweexcore
Underground
2. CIs The Heavenly Option
3. Police Story
THE NEW CONCEPT SINGLE AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!
Los Campesinos! offer us an early preview of what's to come in 2008
with their first concept single, The International Tweexcore
Underground. Together with it's superb b-sides, it forms a
narrative package fit for Los Campesinos! anticipated comeback. Who
better to explain the rhyme and/or reason behind their conceptual
thinking than the band themselves... “The A-Side of this disc is the
afore mentioned track, which, in short, is a story of a
friendship of two opposites and how they are in the best band in the
world, one embracing things that are, shall we say (and you would
almost definitely say) ‘twee’ (yuck) and the other embracing music that
is... not so. This led us to the genius idea of creating a B-side for both
of these people, and cover-
ing songs that each in turn would like by musicians that are name-
checked in the song. You must understand that this is a decision based
on art, and not on us being too rubbish to write our own B-sides. So,
now we have LC! playing the Amelia Fletcher/Calvin Johnson duet of
Heavenly track "C Is The Heavenly Option" and on the other hand LC!
stick it to the man with our rendition of Black Flag’s "Police Story".
Pretty rad, huh? And so, the concept single is born (yeh, it’s ALL down
to us) and a new generation of Henry Rollins fans will want us killed.
Sweet thing. Love and punk, Los Campesinos!” Rumours of Los
Campesinos! began to surface early in the Summer of 2006. The band
formed at Cardiff University amid a blaze of enthusiasm, friendship,
chance acquaintances, and the desire to craft damn good pop music.
They areas diverse in taste as they are in talent, citing everything from
Pavement, to Bright Eyes, The Cure and Silver Jews as influences. Their
six-song debut enhanced EP, Sticking Fingers Into Sockets,
featuring the acclaimed single, “We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives,”
was released on July 17, 2007 on Arts & Crafts.

Love You Moon - Waxwane
Love You Moon is the solo project of Matthew Embree; a
founding and core member of the genre-defying bands RX Bandits and
The Sound of Animals Fighting. Over the course of his ten year career,
embree has developed a cult like following of impassioned fans that
thrive on experiencing his genuine and musically explosive
performances. Heralded by them as one of this generation's most
prolific socially outspoken and musically diverse song-writers.
Waxwane, Love You Moon's debut full length release,
is the five year culmination of Embree's most stripped down and
soulful songs with a pureness and honesty that comes through in his
lyrics and the style in which he records. Written, performed, and
produced entirely by Embree (with contributions from drummer Chris
Tsagakis (RX Bandits, TSAOF) and vocalist Lauren Coleman),
Waxwane was recorded live and on analog tape, a conscious
decision underscoring Embree's fearlessness in presenting his music in
an unadulterated and genuine form.
Low Anthem - Oh My God, Charlie Darwin
Indie-Americana trio The Low Anthem releases its 2nd full length
record, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. Independently released,
the record is co-produced by The Low Anthem and Jesse Lauter.
Recording was done in January of 2008 in the bleak, off-season quiet
of Block Island, RI. Lauter assembled a pro-quality portable recording
rig which was transported by ferry out to the island and assembled in
an empty summer cabin. The crackling of the woodstove and the
rushing of sea breezes against the panes were the only foreign sounds
the band heard. The setting was suited to the body of work.
Low Stars - Low Stars
Opportunity knocks only so often. Low Stars found theirs by teaming four
singers who share a love – make that a passion – for vocal harmonies
originally inspired by Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Eagles. The result is a
Laurel Canyon buzz for the new century as Low Stars prepare to release
their self titled debut album.
Magic Wands - Magic Love & Dreams EP
Magic Wands are a two-piece from either Los Angeles, CA or Nashville,
TN. They’re not really sure. Currently, however, they do know that they
are drifting across the country bringing a “wall of guitars” and
“unapologetic cosmic pop” to all parts of the U.S. while touring with
The Kills and The Horrors. Taking cues from the likes of The
Ravonettes (run at half speed), Morrissey and My Bloody Valentine,
Artrocker describes them as “Slick and sexy, glutinous and
glimmering.”
Magnetic Morning - Magnetic Morning EP
No ordinary side project, Magnetic Morning represents one of the more
inspired collaborations in recent memory. The new duo are an uncanny
hand-in-glove pairing of two alternarock heavyweights: Swervedriver
(and Toshack Highway) singer/guitarist/songwriter Adam Franklin and
Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino. And beyond the sum of such
impressive parts, their new debut five-song EP for their own DH
Records is as mesmerizing as it is a different tack from their previous
bodies of work.
Introduced over dinner at an Argentine restaurant in Manhattan’s East
Village by longtime New York rock writer Jack Rabid of Big Takeover
Magazine, the two hit it off in an immediate mutual admiration society
that was bound to spill over into creative endeavor. Indeed, it had
already been “love at first hear” for each other’s bands. Recalls
Franklin, “When I first moved to New York [from Oxford, England, a
decade ago] Interpol were one of the bands that everyone was talking
about. I heard ‘NYC’ round someone's house in Jersey City and thought
it was beautiful, psychedelic, and resigned—which is totally up my
street!—and the latest in a long line of classic songs about the city.”
Six years previously, Fogarino had had an equal epiphany:
“Swervedriver blew me away at first listen! An old girlfriend had picked
up a copy of [1991’s] Raise, and lent it to me. The moment when ‘I got
it,’ I was in a car doing 75 MPH on the Florida turnpike! They were a
melodic sonic blast, pure rock 'n’ roll, but not 'rawk' at all. They
bypassed the crotch-grabbing, macho, simplicity more associated with
big FM rock radio. At their base was an affinity for the Stooges, but
with a respect for atmosphere. Now, to get the chance to write with
Adam... is beyond mind-blowing."
After their momentous meeting, the two immediately began
exchanging emails, and a collaboration swiftly formed. Song ideas and
recordings whizzed back and forth, also via email, and recording
became a certainty. For Fogarino, whose drumming goes back to feisty
early ‘90s Miami post-punk greats Holy Terrors, it was a unique
chance to step out as a writer. As he notes, “For the both of us,
working together is the opposite of our norms. Adam is usually the
main songwriter for whatever he's involved with. And I don't contribute
all that much to the melodic side of Interpol, only in the ways it's
colored, treated, and effected. But in the Setting Suns, I'm usually the
one to bring forth a chord progression, or a melody that Adam will add
to, musically, lyrically, and vocally." “That is very liberating for me!”
admits Franklin. “Some of his chord sequences are out of this world! I
then work on arrangement, words, and melodies and other sounds,
and give it back to him and he'll add a few more twists.”
Oddly, after all that emailing, the two didn’t work together in person
outside of demoing some tape loops and melodies at Interpol’s
practice space, until they installed themselves in New York’s famed,
Jimi Hendrix-built Electric Ladyland studios to record their finished
tracks for the EP—with Claudius Mittendorfer, who engineered
Interpol's latest LP, Our Love to Admire. “The tracking of guitar and
drums for ‘The Way Love Used to Be’ was the first time Adam and I
actually played 'live' together—and it was being recorded!” reveals
Fogarino, still amazed. “It just simply blew me away. All that we could
do was smile, it was so good.”
Manchester Orchestra - Let My Pride Be What's Left
Canvasback Music/Favorite Gentlemen Recordings is proud to
announce the release of a new EP/DVD from Manchester Orchestra
entitled Let My Pride Be What's Left Behind, available via
independent retail only.
This EP/DVD combo will feature the never before released "What's Left
Behind" documentary film directed by Sam Erickson of 44 Pictures,
three live tracks, and two brand new songs. The first track on the EP, "I
Can Feel A Hot One" will be prominently featured in the September
15th episode of The CW's "Gossip Girl".
Maps & Atlases - Tree, Swallows, Houses
Tree, Swallows, Houses is an album that cannot be fully
enjoyed with only one listen because there are so many ideas being
thrown at you at once; it really takes multiple listens to pick out the
subtle nuances that make up each track. The thing that sets Maps and
Atlases apart from their peers is the fact that they can take multiple
musical ideas and create coherent song structures. Many bands that try
to take from the spastic, free-form indie-rock Joan of Arc perfected
end up focusing on the technical aspects and trying to sound overly
quirky, and end up creating disjointed songs that lose the listener
within a few tracks. Maps and Atlases are heads and shoulders above
other bands in their genre and prove they are they are a band to watch
out for in the years to come.
Maps & Atlases - You And Me And The Mountain
Chicago, Illinois indie rock quartet Maps and Atlases are not your
average indie-rock band. There are no dime a dozen, disco-inspired
guitar licks and no sort of pseudo-pretentiousness surrounding any of
the seven quirky tracks that make up Maps and Atlases You and Me
and the Mountain. Chicago is no stranger to quirky, indie-rock
bands with a penchant for complex guitar work (Joan of Arc anyone?),
and there are numerous bands from all over America now trying to
follow in the mighty footsteps of the legendary Kinsella project.
However, many of these upstarts fail to fully coalesce their many ideas
into coherent song structures, but Maps and Atlases not only achieve
this goal, they do it flawlessly.
Margot and the Nuclear So and So's - The Daytrotter Sessions EP
Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s are an 8-piece circle of young friends
from Indiana who, in the spring of 2005, quietly released one of the
most beloved indescribable records in recent memory, The Dust of
Retreat. The band has clocked more than 100,000 miles on the
road, playing sold out shows in New York, Chicago, and of course,
Indianapolis. The band was signed to Epic Records in October 2007,
and has been writing and recording their major label debut with Brian
Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine).
In anticipation for their upcoming full-length, they will be releasing
The Daytrotter Sessions EP. Daytrotter.com is an online
streaming site which features acoustic performances from dozens of
major and indie artists from their studio in Rock Island, IL. Margot will
be the first band to formally release the songs from their session,
which features a track list of new material along with The Dust of
Retreat favorite, "Bookworm".
Matisyahu - Shattered
Produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, Sublime),
Shattered features songs from Matisyahu’s forthcoming album
recorded and mixed in Jamaica, New York, Los Angeles and Virginia.
Several guest artists contribute to the four-song EP: ground-breaking
Jamaican reggae rhythm section Sly & Robbie (drums and bass, “Two
Child One Drop” and “I Will Be Light”) Stephen McGregor (co-producer,
keyboards, drum-programming, “Smash Lies”) son of legendary reggae
artist Freddie McGregor and among Jamaica’s youngest and most
innovative young producers, Fish (drums, “So Hi So Lo”) and Norwood
Fisher (bass, “So Hi So Lo”) of the legendary L.A. alt-punk-ska band
Fishbone and experimental turntablist Ooah from the Glitch Mob (co-
producer, co-writer, drum programming on “Two Child One Drop”).
Matisyahu emerged in 2004 with his debut album Shake Off the
Dust…Rise. With the release of Live at Stubb’s (2005),
which reached #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, and Youth
(2006), which debuted at #4 on Billboard’s Top 200 and reached #1
Reggae Albums chart, Matisyahu gained considerable critical acclaim.
Both albums subsequently went Gold and Youth was
nominated for a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. His most recent
release, the EP No Place To Be (2007), reached #1 on the
Reggae Album charts as well.
Mattoid - The Glory Holy
Finnish freak-folk-rocker The Mattoid returns with his 2nd full length
album, The Glory Holy. Recorded at John Vanderslice’s Tiny
Telephone studio in San Francisco by engineer Jay Pellicci (Deerhoof,
Erase Erata), and finished in The Mattoid’s current home base of
Nashville, TN with members of Silver Jews, Clem Snide, Lambchop, and
Bobby Bare Jr.’s Young Criminals Starvation League.
The Mattoid has done and will continue extensive touring opening for
irreverent comedian Doug Stanhope in the past year and has continued
to amuse, provoke, and entertain audiences in his home city of
Nashville with his unique mix of music, comedy, and performance art.
Matt & Kim - To/From
On the surface, Matt & Kim are made up of the same parts as Mates of
State, but in reality, they hit much harder. On To/From, their
demo/EP, the Brooklyn duo shows a lot of potential. The opening track,
"Silver Tiles" begins with jumpy keys and a driving beat and breaks into a
rousing chorus of "All our hope / and all our friends / through parking
lots / it's where we've been." Apparent to first-time listeners, the sound is
definitely of the dance-punk variety, but it's not nearly as snooty or
crummy as, say, the Killers.
MC Chris - MC Chris is Dead
With more than 70,000 myspace friends, MC Chris has created a small
army of nerds; the recluse, the outcasts, the disillusioned, all thanks to
blogging and signing CDs after shows and taking pictures and being
accessible to the kids. Thanks to interacting with his audience, MC Chris
has created a water cooler phenomenom without the usual street team
costs.

Scene Are Not Who You Think They Are Remix).”
Scott Miller - For Crying Out Loud
It's been three years and a lot of water under the bridge since Miller last
released a studio album. In the meantime, there was an enthusiastically
received live release (Reconstruction), exposure to brand new
national audiences as a solo opener for Patty Griffin and some personal
losses and growth that provide grit and polish for the collection of new
songs on For Crying Out Loud.
Minibar - Desert After Rain
There's a directness and cohesion here that only comes from night
after night of playing together for years, whatever the size of the stage.
Survivors of transatlantic relocation, major label incompetence, radio
indifference and eleven years of carrying their own amplifiers, Minibar
deserve to be heard. They have toured with The Wallflowers, The
Jayhawks, Wilco, Teenage Fanclub and The Old 97's. Their music has
appeared in 'Shrek 2', 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back', 'The OC',
'Nip/Tuck', and most recently in 'Men in Trees'. Out on tour until April
2007 with Pete Yorn, both as his support band and his backing band,
they continue to make records and play them regardless of the downs
and downs of the music industry. Catch them while you can!

Moon Taxi – Live Ride
Moon Taxi is an explosive rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. They
have spent the past couple years touring relentlessly, honing their unique
sound. They have played the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota, Moe's
Summer Camp Festival, Birmingham's City Stages, the Terrapin Hill
Harvest Festival and clubs from Texas to New York City. Live Ride
was recorded live in Nashville and features 8 previously unreleased songs
as well as favorites from their debut album Melodica.
Daniel Martin Moore - Stray Age LP
The first thing you’ll notice about Stray Age is its simplicity.
It’s a folk record, evoking certain feelings (as all good records should),
but there’s a gentle approach to its sound and the way Moore’s voice
phrases his words. Stray Age was recorded in Los Angeles in
three different spurts, the first two sessions taking place in October
and December of 2007, then the third in February of 2008. He even got
some people you’ve heard of to help him out. Joe Chiccarelli (The
Shins, U2, The White Stripes) took on co-production, recording and
mixing duties. Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Tori Amos) played upright
bass. Jesca Hoop lent her voice to “The Old Measure” and “Restoration
Sketches.” And Petra Haden (Bill Frisell, Beck) adds violin to “It’s You,”
“The Hour Of Sleep,” and “The Old Measure.”
Jason Mraz - We Dance EP
Atlantic recording artist Jason Mraz has disclosed early details of his
enormously anticipated new album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal
Things. The collection – Mraz’s first set of all-new material in
nearly three years – will arrives in stores and at online retailers on May
20th.
We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. will be heralded by a
trio of individual EPs: We Sing, due March 18th; We
Dance, out April 15th; and We Steal Things, which will be
available as a digital bundle with purchase of the album on iTunes, and
as part of a bundle when purchased via JasonMraz.com or
AtlanticRecords.com. The EPs will feature unique versions of various
album tracks recorded during special intimate sessions.
We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. follows Mraz’s two
previous studio releases: 2002’s RIAA platinum-certified
breakthrough, Waiting For My Rocket To Come, and 2005’s
Mr. A-Z, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200, with
career-best first week sales exceeding 80,000. Mraz has also released
a series of concert recordings, including 2004’s Tonight, Not
Again: Jason Mraz Live at the Eagles Ballroom and 2006’s digital-
only release, Selections for Friends.
My Morning Jacket - Celebración De La Ciudad Natal 2x10 + CD
Recorded LIVE in Louisville (at Ear X-tacy, and Waterfront Park), includes
classic tracks and selections from the band's most recent Grammy
nominated album Evil Urges.
Matt Nathanson - Left & Right: Live @ Fingerprints
Left & Right: Live at Fingerprints. Live at Park Ave. offers a
glimpse at why Matt Nathanson has accrued an ever-growing legion of
fans over his career. Recorded at two separate solo acoustic in-stores
along his 2007-2008 tour, the tracks here present all sides of Matt's
appeal, from the well-crafted pop melodies of "Come on Get Higher"
and "Car Crash" to Matt's hilarious stage banter (he riffs on 'Rock of
Love' AND 'Dog the Bounty Hunter'!) to an aching cover of Bruce
Springsteen's "No Surrender." Raw, intimate, and off the cuff, as the
best in-stores always are, this EP will surely be a must-have for Matt
Nathanson fans new and old.
Neurosonic - Live at Manifest
Neurosonic's brutally honest musings are an intense mix of hard rock,
standout lyrics, and big, catchy choruses. Recorded during their Spring
’08 tour with Puddle of Mudd, Live at Manifest captures
Neurosonic sharing a rare, intimate performance with their fans. Singer
Jason Darr leads the crowd through Neurosonic hits including the
breakout single, “So Many People”.
New Frontiers - Mending
Thoughtful, sincere, and patient, all under an umbrella of undeniable
beauty, The New Frontiers is American indie rock's answer to Coldplay.
Mending, their debut album, is only available from Twist and

Boulderado – Live at The Fox captures North Mississippi Allstars
at the pinnacle of the heralded ‘Keep the Devil Down’ tour. The tour
supported the first releases on the band’s own label (Songs of the South

return to a rock trio sound for the group. The ‘Keep The Devil Down’ tour
was the band’s most successful run of dates in years. The twenty tracks
on Boulderado make it clear why.
