Unkle - Remix Stories Vol. 1 LP
Released as a 12” and digitally, exclusively via Beatport for the first
four weeks after the release. The 12” features four previously
unreleased remixes of tracks taken from the last two albums (War
Stories and the recently released End Titles… Stories for
Film).
The deliberate decision to make this release available on 12” was made
in a bid to go back to Unkle's roots (of dance music, pre-digital age)
and to make Remix Stories a collectible item for long standing
fans. In their illustrious career, Unkle have released an array of remixes
on CD and download, so James Lavelle and company are here
honouring their favourite format with some of the mixes they they’ve
been proudest of over the last two albums.
Remixes come courtesy of legendary dance duo Layo and Bushwacka!,
renowned house djs and remixers Innervisions, and one of today’s
most prolific producers Radio Slave

James Lavelle liner notes:
This is not the new UNKLE album. It is a collection of pieces of music
recorded in the two years since we completed War Stories. As
we were finishing that album, Pablo Clements, my brother Aidan and I
set up a studio, Surrender Sounds. We are an independent
organisation. We have to find different ways to fund ourselves, to fund
the making of our records. Selling records is now a very different
proposition than it was ten years ago. There are many more avenues
you need to explore in order to survive. That is the reality of today’s
music business.
One of the most enjoyable areas we have been exploring over the
years is the area of audio-visual collaborations, music for film,
television, computer games and the like. However, there is a rather
frustrating side to this type of creative endeavour. A lot of the music
you’re making ends up sitting on the shelf, neither properly released
nor heard. A waste, really we thought. So this album is our attempt to
alleviate our musical frustrations whilst hoping that it will find a wider
audience.
What I think is interesting about this selection of tracks, some old some
new, (which were recorded and compiled in a 5 week period, unheard
of in the usual time frame of making an UNKLE record!) is that it covers
a much wider range of influences than an album, like War
Stories, which has a particular focus. There is room for everything
in this kind of collection, from classical all the way to beat-driven
instrumentals and electronic rock. To add to the collage-effect, the
tracks are interspersed with incidental music and dialogue from our
soundtrack to Alex Grazioli’s documentary about Abel Ferrara,
Odyssey in Rome. In fact, as work on this progressed, it felt
more and more like a soundtrack for another, imaginary, film – this
time one of our own making.
The collection spans different periods of recent UNKLE work. Starting
with Josh Homme’s vocal version of “Chemistry” (heard in its
instrumental form on various film soundtracks and trailers), it also
covers collaborations with Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones
who we worked with on the artwork for War Stories. Other
tracks are collaborations with Philip Sheppard who recently scored the
movie In The Shadow of the Moon. There’s the music created
in our studio just by the three of us. There are newer pieces,
completed for this collection, with James Griffith the bass player in our
touring band, and Gavin Clark who we collaborated with on War Stories
and sings on, amongst others, "Heaven" and "Blade in the Back" the
opening and closing title tracks from Odyssey in Rome.
"Heaven" is also the closing track on the Spike Jonze skate video
Fully Flared. We even have Abel himself singing on a couple of
tracks that we specifically re-recorded and produced for Odyssey
in Rome. The songs were apparently an important source of
inspiration in the making of Bad Lieutenant, an Abel cult
classic.
Other artists who collaborated with us during this process include,
Chris Goss, Black Mountain, Dave Bateman, Joel Cadbury, James Petralli
(White Denim) and members of our touring band.
So not a new album in the usual sense, but new music that has been
inspired by the moving image. Enjoy.
Useless ID – Lost Broken Bones
During their first years, the band was mainly active in the Israeli
hardcore scene. After releasing 2 albums on their own label, Falafel
Records (named after their favorite food), the band decided to tour the
United States. While on tour, they caught the ears of Kris Roe (frontman
of the Ataris). The Ataries and Useless I.D. ended up recording a split
album together on Kung Fu. The band were then signed by Kung Fu
Records who put out their last 3 albums. In addition to those albums,
Useless I.D. have been featured on the landmark compilations Short
Songs for Shore People and the Rock Against Bush comps that Fat
Wreck Chords released. The band have also been featured in the
documentary, Jericho's Echo, which featured punk and hardcore acts
from Israel. The band's lastest album finds them returning to record
with Bill Stephenson and Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room.
Suburban Home records is really excited to be able to release this
album. Expect some really great tours in the near future (the band have
done a few warped tours and have toured with the Ataris, and No Use
for a Name.)
Via Audio - Animalore
Two years after the release of their critically-acclaimed album Say
Something, Brooklyn’s indie pop quartet Via Audio releases their
sophomore opus, Animalore, a melting pot collection of
eccentric sounds—songs infused with fairy tales, folklore, science
fiction, romance, seduction, and adventure.
Via Audio was formed in 2003 in between classes at the infamous
Berklee College of Music in Boston. After releasing a self-titled EP on
the small independent Kill Normal Records in 2004, the band first
garnered attention with Death Cab for Cutie’s guitarist Chris Walla
dubbed them his “new favorite band,” in his column for Under the
Radar Magazine.
Virgins - Virgins EP

Four and The Strokes, and have opened for Patti Smith in Paris. Get their

Von Bondies - Pale Bride
This exclusive 7" features "Pale Bride" from Love, Hate And Then
There's You as well as the unreleased B-side "Falling In Love".
The Von Bondies formed in Detroit in 2000, helping to fuel the
burgeoning local indie music scene. The band's roaring sound and raw
emotion played an essential role in the resurgence of garage rock,
going on to find critical mainstream success, and influencing many
other artists.
Their long-anticipated new album Love, Hate And Then There's
You will drop on February 3, 2009.
Produced by Rick Parker (BRMC), Peter Katis (Interpol), Sean O' Keefe
(Hawthorne Heights) and Butch Walker (Hot Hot Heat), and written by
singer/songwriter/guitarist Jason Stollsteimer, Love, Hate And
Then There's You is The Von Bondies' third studio album, and the
first since 2004's critically acclaimed Pawn Shoppe Heart,
which became an indie rock essential and featured the hit single "C'
mon C' mon."
Butch Walker - I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart LP
Though he’s been a first-call songwriter and producer for artists ranging
from Weezer to Pink to Dashboard Confessional for some time, Butch
Walker has never had more to write about than he does right now. In
recent years he has witnessed the birth of his first child, lost his home
(and recording masters) to Malibu wildfires, and turned 40. Appropriately
then, Butch’s new album I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart
is about beginnings, endings, and the long journey in between.
Walkmen - You & Me LP
"This is the sound they’ve reached for since the very beginning, and
they’ve never played it as gracefully or confidently as they do here." -
Pitchforkmedia (score = 8.5, Best New Music)
Watson Twins - Live at Fingerprints
The Watson Twins kicked off the promotion of their debut LP Fire
Songs with an intimate street-week instore at Fingerprints Music
in Long Beach, CA. The twins, accompanied only by a nord electro
keyboard, delivered a spellbinding set of selections from 'Fire
Songs (including their much beloved cover of the Cure's "Just Like
Heaven"), re-worked for their unique performance configuration. The
result is something like magic, showcasing the twins' piercing vocal
arrangements and haunting melodies. Also included on this set is
"Rebel Soldier," a heartbreaking and beautiful outtake from the Fire
Songs studio sessions.
Ween - Friends EP
Friends is a brand new EP that Ween put out in June of 2007.
That is all you need to know, because Ween rule and you will buy this EP
without ever hearing it first and you will love every minute of it. They
have a new album coming out in Fall 2007.
Weezer - Weezer (Red Album, Red Vinyl)
Weezer - one of the biggest and most influential bands of the last decade
will for the third time in its six-album history release a self-titled album.
To distinguish it from the other eponymous albums it's being referred by
people as "The Red Album." Comprised of sessions produced by Rick
Rubin, Jacknife Lee and the band itself, the album is adventurous and
undeniable Weezer pop-rock.
The first single, the quirky and catchy "Pork and Beans," was recorded
under the watch of the Irishman Lee and will soon be a Weezer classic.

Widespread Panic - Carbondale 2000
Southern Illinois University Arena December 1, 2000 - First archival
release on their own Widespread Records- this recording is with ALL
ORIGINAL MEMBERS!
Widespread Panic – Valdosta 1989
The second volume in the Widespread Panic Archive series will
celebrate the 20th anniversary of the group’s April 8th, 1989 stop at
Valdosta, GA’s The Armory. At the time Widespread Panic was a slim
quartet consisting of John Bell, Michael Houser, Dave Schools and Todd
Nance and still shaping future favorites like “A of D”, “B of D” and “I’m
Not Alone.” In addition, at this Valdosta stop the group performed a
number of classics like “Porch Song,” “Space Wrangler,” “Travelin’
Light,” “Holden Oversoul,” “Pigeons,” “Driving Song,” “Disco” and
“Chilly Water,” as well as covers of the Grateful Dead’s “Cream Puff
War,” Talking Heads’ “Heaven” and Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way
Home.”
Wild Sweet Orange - Whale EP
Wild Sweet Orange is an incredible live band from Birmingham,
Alabama, and they are slowly but surely building a fanbase, getting
love from blogs, KEXP and word of mouth about how special a band
they are. They have already opened shows for and toured with The
Kings of Leon, Mat Kearney, The Whigs, and others. The Whale
EP is a taste of even better things to come.
Wild Sweet Orange have received rave reviews from many of the top
blogs including I Am Fuel and My Old Kentucky Blog, and have been
championed by KEXP for well over a year now. They had one of the
most requested songs at the station last year and played two sold out
shows at Chop Suey in Seattle the first time they ever played the city.
They also had a song, “Land Of No Return,” featured on Grey’s
Anatomy last March.
Wombats - Wombats EP
The charmingly nerdy boys of Liverpool's the Wombats are big stars in
England, but here in America, I usually can't bring them up without
getting mocked. First of all, they call themselves the Wombats, and
even have a stuffed toy wombat they carry on tour with them. Second,
they sound like a less macho, more indie influenced Weezer. (Yes, it is
possible for a less macho Weezer to exist.) Third, their singer/guitarist
has a receding hairline and bald spot which he tries to
hide with floppy, curly hair.
Since I am a complete and total cheeseball, I love this band. Their pop-
punk ditties sparkled and popped live, played with sugar high intensity
and utmost professionalism. I totally want to go to the mall
with these guys. - NME.com
Wood Brothers - Loaded LP
"coolly hip, warmly openhearted, and thoroughly infectious."-
PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
"A loose reimagining of American roots styles... earthy, acoustic
original songs spiced with a shot of hipster irreverence."- ROLLING
STONE
On Loaded, the follow-up to their acclaimed debut Ways
Not to Lose, Oliver & Chris Wood engage in a more expansive
musical dialogue that builds on their signature folk & acoustic blues
sound. The album features guest vocalists Amos Lee, Pieta Brown &
Frazey Ford joining Oliver & Chris on a set of nine new originals &
covers of Bob Dylan ("Buckets of Rain") & Jimi Hendrix ("Angel")
produced by John Medeski. This vinyl edition also includes a CD
version of the release!
Wussy - Rigor Mortis
Girlie Action is absolutely thrilled to present Mike Edison:
pornographer, punk-rocker, pro-wrestler, former publisher of “that
dope rag” High Times magazine, and chronicler of Bourbon Street
strippers, nymphomaniac housewives, and motorcycle daredevils for
such outlaw broadsides as Penthouse and Hustler. As he confesses
gleefully in the lead-off track of his new spoken-word album
(produced by Jon Spencer), “That’s not a résumé, that’s a crime scene.”
Edison has distilled over two decades of his illicit adventures into his
new memoir, I Have Fun Everywhere I Go: Savage Tales of Pot,
Porn, Punk Rock, Pro Wrestling, Talking Apes, Evil Bosses, Dirty Blues,
American Heroes, and the Most Notorious Magazines in the World
(Faber and Faber), and this beatnik bop and punk-rock boogaloo
companion piece of the same name.
Tales of going undercover to Jews for Jesus bible meetings collide
head-on with an edgy eulogy for Edison’s friend and former bandmate
GG Allin. “Pornography, Part I” recounts Edison’s stint as editor-in-
chief of filth-bible Screw magazine, and includes an explicit recap of
“Omar’s Anal Adventures,” as well as an over-the-top bashing of
George Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Madonna, and more. Not content with
taking on the US Government, Edison enters an epic (and side-
splitting) feud with “self-righteous do-gooder” Hulk Hogan. (“Frankly,”
says Edison, “he’s just not my kind of people.”) Finally, Ozzy Osborne
shows up to steal Edison’s pot, and he tells the laugh-a-minute story
with obvious delight, pummeling his stoned ex-colleagues at High
Times.
I Have Fun Everywhere I Go the album is rife with Jon
Spencer’s sonic hoodoo: fuzz guitars and blues explosions, science-
fiction synthesizers, swirling church organs, and howling spookhouse
theremins percolate behind Edison’s hilarious, no-holds-barrred
storytelling and greasy sidewalk preaching. A sick brew of Lenny Bruce
and Jack Kerouac, with high notes of Tom Waits, Sun Ra, and Richard
Pryor, I Have Fun Everywhere I Go marks a revolutionary turn
for the spoken word record.
