Once in a while it all just goes nice and smooth. That’s how it was last
night with Kyle Hollingsworth. The band ambled in about an hour early,
humping their own gear. Kyle did all his own setup. The crowd showed
up at hippie o’clock (which is to say late). But come they did. By the
time they got going, the crowd was over a hundred grooving to
Hollingsworth’s jazzy pop. Last time he played at the store, it was all-
instrumental, this time Hollingsworth debuted a bunch of vocal
material from his great new album Then There’s Now. Still
quite jazzy, he also showed his songwriting abilities. The crowd could
not have been more laid back, and Kyle and his band could not have
been nicer or more professional.
