What a special event! On Friday night, the good folks at Suburban
Home records took over the store and presented two of their great
artists and brought a keg of beer to boot. First up was Elin Palmer and
it is safe to say that we were all blown away by this amazing local
artist. Of Swedish descent, this easy on the eyes and ears indie
princess sings her own songs, accompanying herself on an instrument
called a Nyckelharpa which is a… it’s kinda like… I’ve never seen
anything quite… google it and you’ll see for yourself. Everyone was
entranced by the woman, her music and the instrument itself. I look
forward to much more from this artist. Elin Palmer was followed by
Chad Price who is the chief singer/songwriter for the excellent band
Drag The River. His solo work is moody and thoughtful and Chad and
Drag The River have developed quite a following.
We always like doing local instores, and when the label is as great and
helpful as Suburban Home it is doubly enjoyable (thanks Virgil). After
the event, Dawn and I stayed and talked semi-drunkenly to several
customers about the future of music, and sound, and why vinyl still
sounds better, and stuff like that. Usually we stay and prolong the
evening only when it was a good instore - so there you have it. -- Paul
